Weight Loss Program
Dr. Khan is board-certified in internal medicine and obesity medicine.
We offer medical weight loss in Springfield MA and throughout Western Massachusetts. We work on a comprehensive weight-loss program to help you reach your ideal weight safely and effectively.
Obesity is now widely recognized as a chronic disease and is linked to several serious health conditions such as pre-diabetes, diabetes, sleep apnea, heart disease, osteoarthritis, and depression.
At Personal Primary Care, our goal is to provide evidence-based obesity treatment in Western MA that supports long-term results and improved overall health.
We use several modalities to help with weight management, weight loss, and fat loss, which can potentially mean a decrease in your medication dosage or even discontinuing certain prescriptions as your health improves.
We use the following modalities to help you with weight loss:
- Lifestyle Management: We emphasize eating local and organic food, sleeping 7–8 hours a night, walking at least 6,000 steps a day, shopping responsibly and learning to read food labels, spending time with family, dancing, practicing deep breathing, exercising regularly, and meditating. These lifestyle changes are the foundation of our weight loss programs in Springfield MA and surrounding communities.
- Nutritional Management: Patients learn about a diet that avoids refined carbohydrates like white bread, white rice, pasta, and store-bought cereal, and focuses on good fats like olive oil and avocados, and healthy proteins such as free-range chicken, grass-fed beef, and wild-caught fish — along with locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Our nutrition and fat loss programs in East Longmeadow MA teach sustainable eating for long-term success.
- Meal Replacement: Using meal replacements can be a good way to track calories and stay consistent, especially for those with busy lifestyles. We guide patients through options that support medical weight loss near Wilbraham MA and Northern CT.
- Pharmacological Treatment: The field of medications to treat the chronic disease of obesity is evolving rapidly. We offer several effective options that complement lifestyle modifications to help with weight management, weight loss, and fat loss. These include Contrave, Qsymia, Phentermine, Metformin, Topamax, Saxenda, and newer medications for type 2 diabetes that also support weight control.
You may also be taking medications that cause weight gain or increase your risk of obesity — we work with you and your healthcare providers to identify and, when appropriate, replace them with weight-neutral alternatives as part of our obesity treatment in Western Massachusetts. - Behavior Therapy: There is a strong relationship between food habits and mental health concerns such as depression. We help identify these associations and provide tools or referrals to address connections between weight gain and emotional health, supporting lasting results through behavioral weight loss therapy.
- Weight Loss Surgery: We work closely with our surgical colleagues to help identify patients that will need surgical weight loss and help co-manage these patients with our surgical colleagues to prevent medical complications, like nutritional deficiencies and anemia.
Personal Primary Care serves all of Western MA, including Springfield MA, East Longmeadow MA, Wilbraham MA, and Northern CT for weight loss and fat loss programs and diet plans.
