Meet the Physicians and Providers

Dr. Nidah Khan, MD

Dr. Nidah Khan, MD is Board certified in internal medicine. She completed her residency in Berkshire medical center in Pittsfield, MA. From an early age, she was inclined to become a doctor to follow her mother’s lead who is a pediatrician in Pakistan. She is passionate about family medicine, primary care, and lifestyle medicine. A fitness enthusiast, she prides in incorporating lifestyle management to prevent and treat chronic disease. A firm believer of using nutrition to maintain and regulate weight, she also enjoys helping patients reach their ideal body weight.

She lives in Western Massachusetts with her husband and three children. She enjoys cooking, long walks, yoga and sitting by the fire in the winter with a good book to read. Her goal is to partner with her husband Dr. Talal Khan to bring excellent medical care to their patients living in this area.

She has privileges at both Mercy and Baystate Medical Center and enjoys being a primary care physician.

Talal Khan, MD

Talal Khan, MD, is a board-certified internist specializing in obesity medicine, preventive care, and chronic disease management at Personal Primary Care in Springfield, Massachusetts.

He believes lifestyle changes and healthy choices are crucial to helping his patients manage their chronic illnesses, lose weight, and avoid future complications. It is this holistic and functional approach to medicine that drives his practice.

Dr. Khan has always been passionate about primary care. He practiced in rural Maine, treating patients from all walks of life — Harvard professors and lobster fishermen alike — for five years before relocating to Western Massachusetts, his home for the last decade.

He received his medical degree from Rawalpindi Medical College in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and completed his residency at SUNY in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Khan has medical staff privileges at both Baystate Medical Center and Mercy Medical Center in Springfield.

When he’s not helping his patients reach their wellness goals, Dr. Khan enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, also a physician, and their three children.

Avery Pedro, PA-C

Avery Pedro, PA-C,  is a board certified physician assistant who is passionate about lifestyle medicine, preventative medicine, and longitudinal care with goals to maximize health and wellness. She has a holistic approach to patient care in the treatment of acute conditions and management of chronic ones. Graduating from Springfield College in 2022 and a member of Pi Alpha National Honor Society, Avery mastered in the Science of Physician Assistant Studies and double minored in nutritional sciences and health care management. 

Born and raised locally in Western Massachusetts, Avery enjoys being an active member and volunteer in our communities. With a zest for life, she enjoys staying active with her family and friends by taking walks, cooking, traveling, and playing pickleball.

Lauren Carra, PA-C

My name is Lauren Carra. I grew up in rural Maine, and moved down to Springfield, MA when I was accepted to the PA program. I graduated from Springfield College in 2013. I’ve worked 7 years in hospital medicine, and 2 years at Medical Oncology. I enjoy treating patients, and building a relationship with them, to provide comfortable, compassionate care. In my free time, I enjoy spending it with my two sons, and running. 

Hassen Borhot, NP

Hassen is a board-certified practitioner who has been in practice since 2010. He is an experienced clinician and has practiced in a wide variety of clinical settings including internal medicine, obesity medicine, addiction medicine, emergency, medicine, urgent care, and hospital medicine. He is passionate about preventative, evidenced-based medicine as well as healthy alternative lifestyles.

He obtained his undergraduate training locally at Elms College in Chicopee MA and his graduate education at the University of Connecticut in Storrs CT. He is licensed in both MA and CT. He is a local product of Western Massachusetts and still resides here.

Brianna Zalewski FNP-BC

My name is Brianna Zalewski and I am a board-certified nurse practitioner and graduate of Massachusetts College of Pharmacology and Health Sciences in 2022. 

I obtained my undergraduate training at Elms College and spent most of my nursing career as a registered nurse in the emergency department.

Prior to becoming a registered nurse, I spent five years working in the emergency department as an emergency department technician. 

These past experiences, role changes, and  continued education are main components that help contribute to the compassionate patient care that I aim to provide and future relationships I strive to develop with my patients. 

Any free time that I have is well spent with my two dogs, a good book, and quality time with friends and family.
